1. Duplicate the background of your original image.
2. In the copy of the background layer, pull down the Filter menu to Other, then select High Pass. Select 5 pixels.
3. Select Overlay from the Layer Blend menu.
4. Create another background copy and drag this background copy layer above the first background copy layer.
5. Pull down the Image menu to Adjustments, and select Desaturate.
6. Select Soft Light from the Layer Blend menu.
7. You may need to adjust the opacity of this layer to suit your image.
7. Flatten your image.
The next steps are optional if you'd like to amp up the effect.
8. Create another background copy.
9. Pull down the Filter menu to Other, and select High Pass again.
10. Change the Layer Blend to Overlay.
11. Flatten your image again.
12. Create an Adjustment Layer for Curves and reacreate the curves as shown in the illustration to the right. Watch your image while you do this. Each photograph behaves differently in Curves, so your adjustment may differ from the example slightly.
